CUSTOMER FULFILMENT CENTRE
Woolworths is planning a new online customer fulfilment centre 74 Edinburgh Rd, Marrickville, to service growing demand for home delivery of groceries in the inner west and inner-city suburbs. This project will support up to 660 ongoing jobs and a further 360 jobs throughout the construction phase.

In 2020, Woolworths lodged a State Significant Development Application (SSDA) for the project to the NSW Department of Planning & Environment (DPE).
​
Throughout the application process, Woolworths engaged with the local community to provide information on the project, outline the benefits, impacts and mitigation measures and collect feedback. The Engagement Outcomes Report can be found here.

The application was approved by DPE on 16 June 2022.

Where we are now
Woolworths is preparing to demolish the existing buildings on site.
​
In September 2022 Woolworths met with members of the Marrickville community to discuss the demolition phase. Items discussed included:

Truck movements:

Truck movements during this stage will be limited where possible via Sydney Steel Road only. As approved under the SSDA, truck movements during construction can be via both Edinburgh and Sydney Steel Road.

Hours of operation:

Monday to Friday: 7am – 6pm

Saturday: 8am – 1pm

Demoliton completion:​

Demolition expected to be complete before Christmas.
​
All work will comply with the Development Consent which are the conditions of approval DPE requires for the project. This document can be found here.

Woolworths, with their Principle Contractor Central Civil (NSW), will notify the community on this website and by mail before starting any demolition or construction.

Construction
Before starting building construction, Woolworths will explore temporary alternative depot type uses for the site such as bus and truck storage. Woolworths will submit a Development Application to Inner West Council for approval of this use.
